Position: Literacy Tutor

Class: Introduction to ESL

Days/Times: Monday – Thursday, 6:30 – 9:30pm

Location: San Mateo Adult School, 789 East Poplar Avenue, San Mateo

Description: This 2-day orientation class is designed to introduce new students to the Adult School, help ease their transition into a classroom setting, and provide appropriate placement in ESL classes. Tutors provide spelling, reading, and writing assistance to students as needed during class, as well as assist the teacher with record-keeping and some administrative tasks. Because many of the students are very new to the English language, Spanish-speaking volunteers would be a great asset to these classes, but non-Spanish speaking tutors are also a big help!
