Agreement Between the San Mateo Union High School District and the Adult School Federation of Teachers

APPENDIX A
COMPENSATION

There shall be a six-step salary schedule. All bargaining unit employees who have completed fewer than three (3) years shall be placed on step one. All employees who have completed at least three (3) but fewer than six (6) years shall be placed on step two. All employees who have completed at least six (6) but fewer than nine (9) years shall be placed on step three. All employees who have completed at least nine (9) but fewer than twelve (12) years of services shall be placed on step four. All employees who have completed at least twelve (12) but fewer than fifteen (15) years shall be on step five. All employees who have completed at least fifteen (15) years of service shall be placed on step six.

The hourly rate for step one shall be $38.21. The hourly rate for step two shall be $40.12. The hourly rate for step three shall be $42.10. The hourly wage rate for step four shall be $44.24. The hourly rate for step five shall be $46.43. The hourly rate for step six shall be $48.76.

Bargaining unit members who meet the criteria set forth below shall be placed on step five (5) of the salary schedule when they have completed nine years of service and be eligible for placement on step six (6) of the salary schedule after completion of twelve (12) years of service.

All teachers who (i) possess a Master's Degree or a Bachelor's Degree and have completed sixty (60) units of upper division or graduate units at an approved college or university, or (ii) who meet the District's Professional Growth criteria, as follows: fifteen (15) units of upper division or graduate units, or an equivalent combination of upper division or graduate units and approved workshops and conferences. If a combination of upper division/graduate units and approved workshops and conferences is used to satisfy this requirement, no fewer than nine (9) of the fifteen (15) units shall be upper division or graduation units. Fifteen (15) hours of approved workshops or conferences shall be counted as one (1) unit of upper division or graduate study.

All upper division, graduate units, and approved workshops and conferences must be directly related to adult education or the subject taught by the teacher seeking Professional Growth credit and must be earned while the teacher is not compensated by the District for attending the workshops, conferences or upper division or graduate classes.
* The rate increases provided in the current schedule shall be retroactive to July 1, 2007.


APPENDIX B

SUBSTITUTE COMPENSATION

The basic hourly wage rate for substitutes who are not regular Adult School teachers shall be at twenty-eight dollars an hour ($28.00).

Instructors who agree to receive a combined class shall be compensated at fifteen (15) dollars an hour above their base pay provided there is a combined attendance of no fewer than 25 students in the combined classes.

APPENDIX C

RE: NOTICE OF INTENT TO CANCEL A CLASS

Please note that the Director of Adult Education intends to cancel [Name of Class] on [Date of Intended Cancellation], which is taught by [Teacher's Name] and which meets at [Time] on [Day of Week]. The class will be canceled because [Enrollment].

Please contact the Director of Adult Education or the Program Developer before [Date] if you wish to discuss the effect on [Teacher] of canceling the class. The effects discussion may include ways to avoid canceling the class.


APPENDIX D
DEFINITION OF BARGAINING UNIT WORK

Only bargaining unit work shall be included or considered for the purpose of determining rights and obligations and calculating benefits and wages under this Agreement. For example, a teacher who works both in a District program (e.g., ESL or fee classes or graduation requirement classes) and an outside agency contract position shall be given probation or permanent status credit only for work in the District program.
