Agreement Between the San Mateo Union High School District and the Adult School Federation of Teachers


ARTICLE XVII: HEALTH AND WELFARE BENEFITS

Section 1.

District health insurance shall be offered pro rata to unit members who work twenty (20) or more hours per week.

Eligibility for payment will be determined as follows:
A. For persons regularly assigned to teach twenty-five (25) hours or more per week the employer contribution shall be a maximum of the current single individual Kaiser premium rate or $450, whichever is less or the single individual premium rate of another District offered plan, whichever is less.

B. For persons regularly assigned to teach twenty (20) to twenty-four (24) hours per week, the contribution shall be a maximum of three quarters of the current single individual Kaiser rate or $337.50, whichever is less or three quarters of the single individual rate of another District offered plan, whichever is less.

C. For persons regularly assigned to teach fifteen (15) hours to nineteen (19) hours per week the District will reimburse employee for the premiums paid by the employee who purchases his/her own medical plan one-half of the current single individual Kaiser premium rate or one-half of the $450 maximum employer contribution for the single individual Kaiser premium rate whichever is less. The employee must submit documentation of the Plan and his/her payment of the premium.

The cap for the single Kaiser rate shall be increased to $450, (pro-rata for employees working 20-24 hours per week).  For employees regularly assigned to teach 15 – 19 hours per week the District will reimburse employee for the premiums paid by the employee who purchases his/her own medical plan up to one-half of the current single individual Kaiser premium rate or one-half of the $450 maximum employer contribution for the single individual Kaiser premium rate whichever is less.  The employee must submit documentation of the Plan and his/her payment of the premium.

Section 2.

Any unit employee may elect to purchase health insurance through the existing District policies at the employee's expense if allowed by the carrier. An employee who so elects must notify the District within thirty (30) days of being hired or request coverage during the open enrollment period.

Section 3

The District shall implement Internal Revenue code § 125, which would permit eligible employees to purchase certain health insurance and dependent care coverage.
