Hello!

Because students and teachers are curious about each other, I will tell you a little about my background. In 1998, I joined the San Mateo Adult School after teaching in various San Mateo High Schools for ten years, both in day classes and evening classes. The evening High School Diploma Classes were:

  • Short Stories
  • Writing
  • English Review

In the Adult School, I worked in several areas:

  • The Adult Learning Center
  • English as a Second Language in High Intermediate and Low Advanced Level Classes
  • Distance Learning

Since July, 2005, I have been working solely in the Distance Learning Program and have enjoyed working with students on all levels, one-on-one, assessing their skills and needs and assigning videos and packets to take home.

It is truly rewarding to meet such dedicated, hard-working individuals, of various ages, from all over the world, whose goals are to learn a new language, share their knowledge with their families, and receive job promotions. We, their teachers, learn much about the world and its fascinating citizens and all of us want to always Keep Learning!
Now I will add a little about my academic and personal background.
In 1987, I came to California, realizing a dream I had kept ever since I had first visited the West Coast when my father was in the Air Force and my mother tutored my siblings and me. My schooling was varied, as we moved often and adjusted to new schools and surroundings, both on the East and West Coasts.

My credentials include a B.A. Degree from the University of Mary Washington in Virginia (an all-women’s college when I went there!) and an M.A. in English from Notre Dame de Namur (formerly the College of Notre Dame) in Belmont, and a California Teaching Certificate in Adult Education.

My most treasured gifts in life are my two adult children, a daughter who lives and works nearby and a son and his family (including my young grandson) who live in Texas. We especially enjoy keeping in touch via “e” mail, but all of us love to travel and get together during vacations, enjoying many special occasions with my cherished younger sister whose family is dear to me.

Before teaching, I was a flight attendant, based in Miami, Florida. What a lot of stories and photos I have from those “old days”! I was also a Flight Attendant Instructor and Ticket Agent Instructor, working in Customer Services for Eastern Air Lines. So, as you can tell, I have always enjoyed education, both as a student and a teacher!

Now, what do I enjoy doing in my time away from our fine San Mateo Adult School? I especially enjoy regular Jazzercise (dance exercise) class, reading, going to concerts, the theater, opera, and dance performances in San Francisco and like to assist senior citizens, driving them to appointments, listening to their stories, and sitting at the park, enjoying the bountiful beauty of California!
