Computer Skill: Sorting and Calculating within a Table
Situation: You and your spouse are trying to save money.
You tell your spouse that the reason you cannot keep within the
budget is because you eat out too much. But your spouse doesn't
believe you. You decide to prove you are right by creating
evidence. The tables are your evidence.
Copy the sample table
handout. Use landscape orientation. Each letter represents
a restaurant that you visited for the corresponding number of times
per month. You will need to copy and paste the table twice
so that you have three identical tables on one page.
Table 1:
Use a formula to calculate sums of each row and column. Title
the table.
Table 2:
Use a formula to calculate the average number of times you went
to each restaurant for the whole year and for each month.
Title the table.
Table 3:
Sort the table by the column headed "June" to see which
restaurant you visited most in June. Title the table.
Write a letter to your
spouse explaining what the tables say. Set the page layout
so that you use protrait orientation for this section. The
tables should still be in landscape orientation.
- If
the tables are true about this year, about how many times have
you eaten out already?
- How
many times do think you will eat out this month and for the rest
of the year?
- Make
suggestions so that you can save some money.
You
should only submit 2 pages. One page will have all three
tables and the other will have the letter. I will not accept
any more than 2 pages. You will have to format your tables
to fit on the page.
English Topics:
Comparison & Using Logical Organizers
Computer Skill: Creating Charts
1. Create a chart based
on the information in assignment 3. You may choose any table
or part of a table. Change the settings and appearance as
you wish. When choosing colors, remember that our printer
is black and white. Try to have as much color contrast as
possible so that it will be easy to read the chart.
2. Write a paragraph
explaining your chart. What are the advantages and disadvantages
of using the chart as compared to using the tables? Use logical
organizers in your paragraph.
