Painting in Watercolors:
Class open to beginning and experienced painters. Try your hand at a landscape, seascape, still life or other themes of interest to you.
$65 Ages 65 and older $85  Ages 50 through 64 $95 Ages 49 and younger

Interested in learning how to create your own knitted garments and gifts? Give it a try. Learn basic or advanced knitting skills. Complete an introductory project, or learn new techniques to add to your current skills. Learn to read the pattern books to create designs that inspire you. Bring size 7 single-point needles and medium weight worsted yarn. Intermediate knitters bring a project you are presently working on. The Thursday 6:15 - 8:45 pm class has been added for beginner knitters.

An accomplished designer Paola Trombetta has created a number of made-to-order knitwear fashions in her native country, Italy. Paola has established her talent and aptitude for design as a consultant for high-end knitwear designs for prominent companies in the garment industry in the U.S. and abroad. (Guest passes accepted)

drawing and pastels

Learn how to design a drawing or painting exploring the basic tools of line, value, form, space and texture. We will experiment with layering pastels to learn the pros and cons of different blending techniques.  Students may use photo reference and can choose their own subject matter from landscape, still life, portrait and more. All levels are welcome.

Supply list:  set of chalk pastels (landscape or portrait), stick charcoal, pad of assorted colors of pastel paper, kneaded eraser, soft rags, photo

Afternoon at the Opera                      $80

Come immerse yourself in daring rescues, twisted plots, and unrequited love as we study and enjoy six operas. Novices welcome!

  • Monday, June 2:    Fidelio by Beethoven Leonore, disguised as a prison guard named “Fidelio”, rescues her husband Florestan from death in a political prison, a story of great personal sacrifice, heroism and eventual triumph. Guest speaker: Mezzo soprano Deborah Rosengaus

  • Monday, June 9:    Le Comte Ory by Rossini Three of the best bel canto singers of our time, Joyce DiDonato, Juan Diego Florez and Diana Damrau tell the tale of Count Ory searching for his true love among misbehaving nuns and a menage a trois!

  • Monday, June 16:   Don Pasquale by Donizetti When scheming Dr. Malatesta arranges for his friend Norina to marry the very rich (and very ancient) Don Pasquale, you can be sure that wedded bliss is not in store for the sorry old codger. Guest speaker: Deborah Rosengaus.

  • Monday, June 23:    Le Rossignol by Stravinski The pursuit of a sweet-singing nightingale teaches a lesson to an emperor in ancient China.  Based on a poetic fable The Nightingale by Hans Christian Andersen.

  • Monday, June 30:    La Traviata by Verdi A famed courtesan fights against her own fierce independence and allows herself to be loved only to be forced to make a supreme sacrifice at a time when she needs love the most.


  • Saturday, July 5:     La Traviata  A free performance at AT&T Park in San Francisco at 8 p.m. Simulcast live from the stage of the San Francisco opera.


  • Monday, July 7:     Carmen by Bizet  The seductive Spanish beauty, who ensnares men and casts them aside, finds one who won’t leave without a fight. Find out how Bizet changed the opera world with this work.

Get all the tips, support and encouragement you need to finally put those memories to paper. Whether it’s your story or your family’s that you want to record, this fun and supportive class will help you do it. The only “experience” required is having lived past fifty! Whether you would like to work on memoir, creative non-fiction, fiction, or personal essays, come spend a few hours a week in a reflective class that will sharpen your writing skills. (No class 7/4)
