A Conversation in the
Arts
Great Singers, Songs and Songwriters, Jazz
Musicians, Movie Stars, Artists and Architects. Join us as we
revisit the great singers and songs of yesterday. Examine the
artists’ personal histories, and take note of the many
influences that contributed to their greatness.

CERAMICS
Students will be able to create a variety of sizes of objects
using different hand building techniques and surface
decorations. Slab, coil, pinch, drape and press mold techniques
will be addressed. We will explore some of these possibilities
making your art more interesting and marketable. Free expression
is encouraged. All experience levels are welcome.
A lab fee for materials will be discussed the
first class session.

CURRENT EVENTS: DISCUSSIONS FROM
MULTI-CULTURAL PERSPECTIVES
Get involved in an ongoing discussion and analysis of Current
Events. Explore national and international news events, as well
as key issues that are shaping the world today. Some of those
key issues can range from politics, finance and war, to Social
Security and health care. Explore your ideas and share your
opinion on issues that affect the world in which we live.

Gentle Pilates: Level 1
Discover long-forgotten muscles and bring pleasure back to
movement with Pilates! Pilates is a series of mat-based
exercises designed to improve posture, balance, and flexibility
while strengthening your “core” — the abdominal, gluteus, hip,
and back muscles. No prior experience is necessary. Please
bring a mat, pillow, and a towel to class. Guest Passes

PAINTING: OIL AND ACRYLIC
Learn basic painting techniques. Mix and apply warm and cool
hues of color to complement composition. Explore different

QI GONG – GENTLE MEDITATIVE
EXERCISES
Qi Gong is a centuries-old Chinese self-help system designed to
maintain one’s good health. It is based in TCM (Traditional
Chinese Medicine) and if practiced regularly will increase one’s
energy level, promote good function of the body’s organs, calm
the mind, and improve one’s feeling of well being. This class
will introduce you to many forms of Qi Gong so you can pick and
choose which movements are the most meaningful to you with the
ultimate goal being for you to be able to continue to practice
and garner the benefits of Qi Gong at home.

YOGA FOR HEALTH
Practice beneficial yoga postures designed to increase your
range of motion, augment flexibility, enhance vitality, and
strengthen your sense of inner calm. Monday and Thursday
classes incorporate the use of chairs, resistance bands, and
yoga blocks. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a towel, small

GUEST PASSES
You
can purchase a set of four guest passes for $20.00 at the San
Mateo Adult School or in class and receive a fifth one as a
gift. One guest pass allows a student to attend one class.
A guest pass can be used for the following 50PLUS classes only:
Fitness Education, Health Topics, Current Events, Armchair
Travel, Knitting, and Music Appreciation. Passes are not
applicable to classes that feature ongoing projects, and involve
use of supplies, such as Painting, Drawing, Ceramics and Sewing.
Purchase a set of guest passes for yourself; or to have a few on
hand to invite a friend or visiting relative to class. It
is a great way to sample many of our class offerings.
