2010 CLASS FEES

The District Board of Trustees approved  a restructuring of the 50 Plus Program class fees.  Individuals 65 and over will continue to pay the current rate of $30 per class per semester. For mature adult students between the ages of 50 and 64, the class fee will increase from $30 to $50 per class per semester.  The discount for taking two or more courses will be discontinued.  These changes effective January 1, 2010, are reflected below.

  Students: 65 years or older   $30 for one course per semester  
  Students: 50 - 64 years   $50 for one course per semester  
  Students: Under 50 years   $75 for one course per semester  

CURRENT AFFAIRS
Get involved in an ongoing discussion and analysis of Current Events. Explore national and international news events, as well as key issues that are shaping the world today. Some of those key issues can range from politics, finance and war, to Social Security and health care. Explore your ideas and share your opinion on issues that affect the world in which we live. No class 4/07.

HAND KNITTING  & MACHINE KNITTING - NEW TEACHER!
Learn basic or advanced knitting skills whether knitting by hand or working with a knitting machine!  Complete an introductory project, or learn new techniques to add to your current skills.   Learn to read the pattern books to create designs that inspire you. Interested in hand knitting? Bring size 7 single-point needles and medium weight worsted yarn. Machine knitters bring your knitting machine to class, or use one of ours. Intermediate or advanced knitters, bring projects you are presently working on. No class 4/07.

PAINTING & DRAWING
Class emphasis is on enjoyment and skill development. Explore various media including watercolor, water-soluble colored pencils and pastels. Supplies and modest  fee for materials discussed first day of class. (No class 4/06).

QI GONG
Enjoy learning  and putting into practice a combination of Qi Gong movements, light aerobics, stretching and strength training. Beginning and experienced students are welcome.  Join one or both classes.

SEWING MACHINE BASICS 
Beginning and intermediate sewers welcomed! Basic sewing machine techniques will be demonstrated.  Sew on your machine or ours.  Complete unfinished projects or start with sewing placemats, aprons or pillow covers. All students pay $10 materials fee to instructor. Registration  begins Sept. 1. (No class 1/18, 2/15, 4/05).

SEWING:   A PERFECT  FIT
All levels, from beginning seamstresses to experienced sewers are welcomed.  Learn how to achieve a perfect fit for your unique body! Construct garments and adjust patterns. Beginners will learn to measure themselves and make simple patterns.  A few sewing machines are available; bring your own if you wish. Supplies will be discussed at the first class. All students pay $10 lab fee to the instructor. (No class 4/09).

TAI CHI
Tai Chi is a graceful, slow-moving exercise system that promotes muscle relaxation and flexibility by reducing physical tension and strain.  Since it is particularly beneficial for the joints, Chen style Tai Chi is ideal for people over 50. “Silk reeling” exercises, a part of the curriculum, gently open up the major joints of the body, in sequence, from the head to the ankles.  Tai Chi has been shown in clinical studies to improve balance and coordination. (No class 4/06).

YOGA FOR SENIORS
Senior yoga is designed to improve or maintain flexibility, strength and is an important tool for stress reduction.  The class includes breath work, yoga poses, mat stretches and focused exercises.  Wear loose clothing. Bring a towel, small blanket and yoga mat.
