The San Mateo Adult School provides a wide variety of computer software instruction to meet the needs of computers users at all ability levels. Whether you need to update your office computing skills or are just discovering the incredible variety of information available on the Internet, the Adult Schools has a class to fit your needs.

COMPUTER LITERACY 

COMPUTERS BASICS          $85
This beginning class will introduce you (50 and older!) to computers and the Internet. Learn the basics of Windows, word processing, surfing the Internet, and e-mails. Hands-on learning for practice. Pre-registration required. 14 meetings. No class on 4/4.

INTERNET BASICS               $85
Welcome to an Internet class just for seniors (50 and older!) presented at a unhurried, non-pressured pace. Learn to shop online; plan travel and vacations; search for health information; locate senior resources or government websites; download forms; music and much more. Brush up on using email, attachments and inserting pictures. Learn how to protect your computer from viruses. Pre-registration required. 14 meetings. No class on 4/5.

WORD NICE AND EASY       $65
If you’ve had a taste of Word in COMPUTERS NICE AND EASY or in COMPUTER BASICS, you might like to extend your word processing skills by learning some new techniques, or reviewing and practicing some old ones. This class is presented in an easy to follow format that will put you right at ease. Students will be using Word 2007. Prerequisite: Computers Nice and Easy or Computer Basics. 9 meetings. No class on 2/20.

LIFE BEYOND THE HELP MENU                           $55
Everything you need to know to keep your home or business computer running smoothly; maintaining a computer and preventing problems, troubleshooting, installing software, organizing a hard disk, configuring your system, anti-virus programs, spyware protection and security techniques, making upgrade decisions, and more. If you are upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7, the class will cover the security improvements and difference in performance.  Warning: This is NOT an introductory class! Students should have used their computers at least one year before signing up. 4 meetings.

APPLICATION PROGRAMS

Word Essentials –Extended Practices           $85
The advanced formatting capabilities of the latest word processors increased the demands for clean, well-formatted text. To meet the increased demands, we have redesigned our Word Class to offer an Extended Practices portion. This class provides additional time to cover more of the high demand formatting features demanded in the workplace. The additional hours allows for additional practice time to insure that you have the confidence to handle more sophisticated formatting. Topics will include tips and tricks for working smarter: efficient navigation, editing shortcuts, formatting tricks, managing indent and tab controls, and preventing printing problems.  9 meetings.

Word Essentials -Power Features for             $85
Power Users
Word is not only a powerful word processor; it has many capabilities once found only in desktop publishing programs. Students will build on the foundations provided in the Extended Practices class to create flyers, greeting cards, photo journals, newsletters and brochures. Learn to insert and edit photos, clip art, and objects downloaded from the web to make your documents sing. Learn to use styles for consistency and eye-catching results. Instruction includes examples from both Word 2003 and 2007. 9 meetings.

POWERPOINT                                                                      $85
This class is designed to help you create, edit, and present a successful PowerPoint presentation. Besides learning eye-catching text and animation techniques, you will gain insights on how to properly pace a presentation, how to insure a logical order, and how to create support materials for you and your audience. 8 meetings.
