Building Futures

Building Futures is a program designed to introduce young men and women to careers in the building trades, and provide them with the educational support services that promote successful entry into the local apprenticeship programs.

Building Futures will acquaint participants with the wide variety of career opportunities available in the building trades, which often have training facilities here in the greater bay area. Students will visit local training facilities where they will have ample opportunities to speak with the instructors and other students who have already started  on their own career paths.

The demands of the modern workplace have changed with the times. Young men and women must learn to combine 21st century computer skills with more direct, hands-on training in the field. They will soon realize that their education will incorporate both the modern technology and the traditional field experience.

Building Futures will also focus on strengthening the basic academic skills necessary for passing both specific entry tests and earning a GED certificate, while acquiring important workplace skills including team building, interpersonal communications, public speaking, job preparation, and leadership training, all of which are necessary for success in any workplace environment.

Changes in the employment scene have resulted in an increased demand for workers that have both a broad knowledge of their craft and an understanding of the wide variety of related skills necessary for career advancement. Building Futures will help its student meet these new challenges.
