Double Winner!

Josh Smith is a double winner. He enrolled in our GED program late in 2006. While enrolled, he discovered Building Futures, a then-new program that introduces young men and women to careers in the building trades. He enrolled in the program and discovered a wide range of careers in trades including such job titles as heavy equipment operator, electrician, heating and cooling specialist, glazier, operating engineer, and a host of others. He saw the opportunity before him and made it his goal to complete his GED and qualify for an apprenticeship with the Plumbing, Pipe Fitting, and Refrigeration Industry.

On June 19, 2008 he was awarded his GED certificate during the Adult School’s Graduation Ceremony. He also received a Lynda Mathe Memorial Scholarship, shown being presented by Connie Zakos, Program Manager for Building Futures.
